James Laxer Lecture: The Crash and After---Economic Choices for Canada

I will be delivering a lecture on Wednesday, January 5 from 4.00-6.00 p.m. in the Senior Common Room at Vanier College (Room 010 Vanier), York University. The lecture will deal with the causes and consequences of the global economic crash, the reconfiguration of the global economy, and the choices for Canada in the coming decades. Is there an alternative to the Harper government's vision of Canada as an "energy superpower" that should tie itself even more closely to the U.S. through the forging of a Fortress North America deal with Washington?

The lecture is being presented by the York Canadian Studies Program and Students for Canadian Studies.

The lecture, to be followed by discussion and questions, is open to the public.

Mr. Laxer, is there any chance we (the out of towners) could get a transcript of your speech at some point?

Jim, agree with you, however our politicians of today, both Conservative & Liberal have tied themselves into being part of the good old USA, and have made a decision that is not the choice of most Canadians.
Starting with accepting a bribe under the Mulroney era, it has continued to now where we follow in others footsteps.

I plan to do some posts in the future based on my lecture today. If, by chance, there is a video of the lecture, I'll try to post that.
