The Harperites on Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Do These People Have No Shame?

The position of the Harper government on climate change, unveiled before the world at the recent Commonwealth Conference in Kampala, and ready for use in Bali at the upcoming global summit on climate change is as follows: the advanced countries should not commit themselves to hard targets for greenhouse gas emissions until the major developing countries adopt hard targets.

In other words, Canada should wait for India and China to get on board with hard targets before we do.

Here’s what this means in practice. While the energy consumption of the average person in the world produces a little more than one metric ton of carbon annually (measured in carbon dioxide emissions), this average disguises enormous differences. Annual per capital carbon emissions in the United States total 20 metric tons, in Canada, 18.4 metric tons, Japan, 9.8 metric tons, France, 6.8 metric tons, Sweden, 6.1 metric tons, China, 3.0 metric tons, and India 1.1 metric tons. The average person in all developing countries is responsible for the emission of 0.5 metric tons.

The average Canadian accounts for the emission of 16.5 times as much carbon dioxide as the average Indian, 6.1 times as much as the average Chinese, 3 times as much as the average Swede, 1.9 times as much as the average Japanese, and 2.7 times as much as the average inhabitant of France.

Harper’s stance: why should we do anything serious about our own emissions until the people at the bottom end of this list get serious about theirs? Until they do, Canadians should be content with “aspirational” targets only.

Do these people have no shame?

Do these people have no shame?

Apparently not.

See Rex Murphy's "commentary" on The National this week (Friday)?

Why the fuck does a thoughtless and self-important, reactionary, AM radio-worthy prick get a nightly slot on national public airwaves?

And then for a chaser, if you haven't had enough of Rex Murphy, you get to watch the At Issue panel.

Not only do they have no shame, they know exactly what they are doing. They know full well that there demands will result in no international agreement on binding targets, which is exactly what Harper, whose private views of Kyoto are probably the same as in 2002 when he referred to it essentially as a money-sucking socialist scheme, wants.

If you want to rescue the environment, don't vote Conservative!

While every body is stooped over the global warming scam Canada is going down the tubes. Global warming is one of the biggest scams going. Not only are we not to blame for GW, all one has to do is look at the science behind GW and any grade two student can see we are not to blame for this planet heating up. Al Gore and the IPCC are full of shit. It is a scam. The USA just passed a bill that is going to cost ever American house hold of four, $4,200 a year to fight GW. You probably heard about this in the news, they just forgot to tell you the price tag on it. There are much more damaging issues facing us today and the main steam media is not being honest when it comes to reporting the news. Fact, “THE MEDIA IS AS CORUPT AS OUR GOVERNMENT”. After all who owns the media? From 9/11, NAFTA, North American Union, alternative energy and the list goes on we are being lied to and deceived. One of the biggest problems facing us today is corruption in both business and governments.
Dams are one of the biggest threats this planet is facing.
To date dams have;
• Inundated a land mass the size of California
• Destroyed over a million miles of riverine ecosystems (the biochemical process operating in rivers is crucial to life on this little planet of ours)
• An estimated 132 million tons of nutrients do not make it to our oceans because of dams
• Dead zones have risen from 150 to 200 in the last two year and dams are partly to blame
• Starve rivers of oxygen and this in turn affects lakes and oceans down stream
• Responsible for the collapse of entire fishing industries
• The weight of water held back from dams has altered the rotations and magnetic field of this planet
• Change the level of the seas
• Displaced over 40 million people. some of these people have been left to starve and in some cases even killed to make way for dams
• Release the same amount of GH gases as if producing the same amount of electricity by using fossil fuels
And the list goes on.
Do you hear about any of this in the media, the answer is no. Why, because the last thing advocates of dams and water diversion want anybody to now is the truth. There are plans to diver water from Canada to the States and if the truth about dams were to be common knowledge there would be public opposition just like if people really knew what NAfTA was all about there would be public opposition and governments and big business doesn’t want that. Canada is one of the world leaders in damming and diverting our rivers. In the not to distant future there will not be one river left in Canada that has not been diverted or dammed. Look at the James Bay project; this is apart of a much larger picture, the GRAND Canal, The Great Recycling and Northern Development Canal. Get with the program Canada, big business and governments do not care about this planet nor do they give a rats ass about you or me. The plan is to control every last drop of water on this planet. There are many other issues like the great lake water level that is caused by the dredging of The St Clair river not annual rain fall, the new tunnel at Niagara Falls which is going to accommodate some of the extra water diverted from the north. This is a very troublesome time we are in and ever body is blind to what is really going on in the world today.
